A South Shore church could be demolished to make way for new homes if the development gets the go ahead from town hall planners.

An outline application has been submitted to the council seeking permission to demolish the Lindale Methodist Church on Dorrit Road and replace it was six semi-detached houses.

A design statement says falling numbers have prompted a move to hold services elsewhere and free up the site for redevelopment.

It says: "This building started life as a temporary prefabricated build but was later added to and eventually the church that exists now was opened in 1967.

"Due to visitor numbers reducing over the years, one proposal is for neighbouring Methodist Churches to hold their services and meetings at the nearby Highfield Methodist Church, Scarsdale Avenue, Blackpool and

thus freeing up this site for potential development."

The new three-bedroom homes would face Dorrit Road and Margate Avenue and be designed to fit in with existing nearby properties.
