Restrictions for dog walkers are already in place across Blackpool – but the council is asking for feedback on plans to extend them.

Dogs on leads

Dogs must be kept on leads in many places across the resort, including on all roads, pavements and footpaths.

A number of parks and playing fields, also feature on the list.

The new plans would see the following places added to the list:

• Fishers field

• Middle Walk on the Promenade

• Cabin walkway

• Squires Gate tram circle

• The grassed area at South Promenade

Dog exclusion areas

There are no planned changes to the areas where dogs are not permitted, which include children’s play areas and sports facilities, such as tennis courts.

Number of dogs

Dog walkers would be allowed a maximum of four dogs at any one time – and only two off their lead – if the new plans are adopted.

The council said this follows complaints over people walking an “excessive” number of dogs without being in control of them.

Leads on request

Where dogs are allowed off leads, an authorised officer can request the owner puts the animal on a lead in some areas.

The new plans would see this rule extended to cover the whole of Blackpool.

Microchips

Since April 2016, dog owners have been required to get their pets microchipped.

The council is planning to ban non-chipped dogs from being excercised off their lead in any public place.
