The town's household waste recycling centre facility, run by Lancashire County Council, re-opened this morning.

One worker at the Jameson Road recycling centre in Fleetwood said that “things had been running smoothly” throughout the morning, but added that they had yet to close the site for a “skip changeover.”

However, residents are being warned that they will no longer be able to turn up at short notice, but will need to book a time slot for their visit in order to prevent queues forming at the facility, which has been closed for seven weeks.

It is one of several changes brought in to maintain safe social distancing rules.

Appointments will be available a few days in advance and visitors will be allocated a 30-minute window in which to attend the centres.

The centre will still have the same opening times, 9am to 5pm.

A booking system is accessible via the county council's website at lancashire.gov.uk/waste or its customer service hotline on 0300 123 6781.
