Decision made on Blackpool travellers site

Plans to use land on Midgeland Road in Marton as a travellers’ site have been refused by Blackpool Council.

The applicant had sought permission for two static caravans, two touring caravans plus two amenity buildings for use by two families.

But the council’s planning committee heard the area was within the designated Marton Moss Strategic Site meaning proposals not linked to agriculture, horticulture or rural recreation could not be supported ahead of the production of a neighbourhood plan.

The council had also met its requirement to provide traveller sites by previously permitting developments on nearby School Road.
