Coun Scott, whose wife Michele is also a Blackpool councillor and is standing as the Conservative candidate in Preston at the General Election, declined to comment on his suspension.

The investigation is not expected to be completed until after the December 12 General Election.

Coun Tony Williams, leader of the Conservative group on Blackpool Council, said he was 'disappointed' by the allegations.

He said: "I had not been aware of Coun Scott having any views of this kind, but if it had been brought to my attention I would have suspended him."
