The rally will be held at the Marine Gardens, beginning at 1pm.

It follows similar protests in Blackpool’s Stanley Park and in Lytham over the past week.

Organising this latest event is Fleetwood student Anita Morgan, 18, supported by others sympathetic to the cause.

Anita, a former pupil at Cardinal Allen RC High School in the town, said: “I think this issue is one of the most important at the moment.

“As well as being about George Floyd, whose death was terrible, it’s about what is happening not just in America but in this country too.

People pay more attention when they hear of things in America but we have cases of injustice here too, and I don’t think we hear about them enough.

“We’ve had protests in Blackpool and Lytham but unfortunately I couldn’t get to them so I decided to hold one in my own town, for others who feel the same way.”

People who take part in the Fleetwood event are asked to socially distance and wear masks. Anita said she had spoken with police about the event and it had been given the all clear.

BLM events have been held in the UK and globally.
