A Blackpool man is wanted by police for allegedly posting a vile message about the Hillsborough victims on Facebook.

The man – who is believed to be a Chelsea fan – vented his anger on the social networking site after incorrectly suggesting a Liverpool fan stabbed a rival supporter last weekend.

The expletive laden post, which was later reposted on Twitter, made several disgusting references to the 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough football stadium on April 15, 1989.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm an investigation is under way following a complaint made on social networking sites about an offensive comment relating to Hillsborough on April 29.”

The case has been passed to Lancashire Police.
