Sgt Tom Nicholls said: “Patrols such as this help reassure the public about using the railways late at night.

“We want people to feel safe and we will be keeping our eyes open for any instances of anti-social or criminal behaviour.

“With the valued support of special constables we are able to provide high visibility travelling officers.

“These patrols will be aimed at high visibility crime reduction in line with British Transport Police’s Operation Magnum on the west coast mainline.

“Officers will also focus on late night services and be on hand to assist rail staff and passengers as well as hand out crime prevention leaflets.”
