Police fury after vandals wreck shelters again on the Promenade in St Annes

Overnight between Friday and Saturday more than a dozen glass panes were smashed at the Grade-II listed shelter on the Promenade in St Annes – causing £2,300 of damage.

It is the seventh attack on the shelters in recent years – with police volunteer Andrew Noble urging Gazette readers to help in capturing those responsible.

He said: “I am deeply saddened by the mindless, moronic vandalism yet again on our promenade.

“The beautiful Grade II-listed Victorian shelter on our promenade has again been attacked with close to 20 windows viciously smashed.

“Fylde Council work so hard to keep our area in such good clean condition with the beautiful floral displays, so it is very disappointing that mindless hooligans have to spoil it.

Vandal attack not the first on shelters

The broken panes were discovered on Saturday morning.

It follows attacks in March 2012, February and May 2013 and July, August and November last year.

Senior town hall officials are now studying CCTV following the weekend vandalism.

Councillor Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council Leader, said: “We’ve reported the latest incident to the police and we’re looking carefully at CCTV footage as we installed a new CCTV camera near the pier earlier this year.

“We’ve now cleared up the damage and will repair the shelter soon, but we ask for public vigilance and co-operation.”
