Police have launched an urgent appeal to find potential witnesses to an alleged slashing incident in Blackpool town centre.

The incident is believed to have happened between 3.30am and 4am on January 4 on Queen Street, between the back of the Home Bargains store and the car park next to the Catholic club.

It is alleged that a 23-year-old man was the victim of an assault in which it is believed that he was slashed across the face with a knife.

Officers would like to speak to three women who were walking along Queen Street just prior to the incident.

After the incident a number of men were also seen in the area and may have witnessed the assault or the moments afterwards, officers say.

A 20-year-old man from Blackpool has been charged in connection with the incident.

Det Cons Duncan Worsley, of Blackpool CID, said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and possibly witnessed the incident.

“Anyone with information should contact me direct on (01253) 604112 or via 101 quoting log number 200 of January 4.”
