Pocket Park is Blooming thanks to Rotakids efforts

Fleetwood school children who are part of Rotakids have planted summer blooms in tubs and baskets at the town's Pocket Park

They have assisted the Fleetwood Fielden Charity in re planting flowers in the park, along with Rotary members and gardeners from Wyre Borough Council.

The children are part of RotaKids which is the youngest branch of Rotary, and supports those children 12 and under to engage in important and lively activities that will make a positive difference in their school; to their local community and globally.

They also end up having a great time and are contributing to Fleetwood in Bloom.

It is a superb way for Rotary to support and expand the work already happening in schools, and in the national curriculum and promotion of citizenship.

Fleetwood Rotary Club now supports eight clubs in the town alone, from a humble beginning of just one in the District in 2009.

Teacher Kirsty Jones, RotaKids co-coordinator at Chaucer school said: “This is a great opportunity for the children of Fleetwood to do their bit for the community.”

Just opposite the library on North Albert Street, the park contains a features ceramic murals from the areas schools a variety of brick planters and benches for relaxation, and was opened in 1998.

Children and teachers from Chaucer, Shakespeare, Flakefleet, St Wulstans, Charles Saer, St Mary’s and Larkholme primary schools were all involved, so a very big thank you to them all for their efforts.

Rotary president David Simpson said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to see all the schools working together for the benefit of Fleetwood and taking pride in our town.”
