Poulton Gala Committee is asking for volunteers to help out as marshals for the parade on the day and to join the committee.

The big event, which last year saw the town packed, is set for Saturday, June 4, but a whole week of exhibitions and events is planned ahead of the gala to celebrate Poulton.

A Parade stars at noon from the Civic Centre in Breck Road and will be followed by an afternoon of entertainment, hosted by singer Tom McLeod in Poulton Square right through until 6pm starring many locally based singers, bands and dance groups.

There will also be Fosters Fantastic Funfair on Cottam Hall Playing Fields from the Friday throughout the weekend.

One of the organisers Andy Mackay said help was urgently needed to make it a success and to secure its future.

He said: “We still need marshals for the parade. We need 30 and have about half of that at the moment.

“We also need residents to join the committee for the future. Due to people moving and people having other commitments the committee numbers are shrinking and going forward we need a little bit of help to keep things going.”

He said anyone who can help is asked to get in touch via [email protected]

He added: “Things are coming together well for this year’s gala.

“The Big Parade starts at noon from the Civic Centre on Breck Road and threads its way around the town, finishing in the historic Market Place, with the magnificent St Chad’s Church as a backdrop, where the crowning of the Gala Queen, Rebecca Curl of St Hilda’s C of E Primary School, will take place at around 12.45pm.

“The parade includes the renowned Poulton Band, Poulton’s own ATC squadron, Poulton Guides, Brownies and Rainbows, Thomas the Tank engine, Poco Loco Samba Band and many more.”

Organiser Roger Critchley said: “Throughout the week the Celebrate Poulton line up includes local foods on display and to taste, in front of the new Booths store; a classic car show at Staining Village Hall; a dog show on Poulton’s Vicarage Park; a Creative Corner exhibition on Booths Square; a celebration of Poulton’s heritage and culture in the library.

There will also be a Big Tea Party at the Methodist Church; a fashion show by Kabuki in Booths Cafe; an international market at Booths; a lunchtime hot pot at Queensway Community Centre; a Pro-Am Bowling Challenge and a photographic exhibition.
