Play area turned down in Green revamp

Fylde Council’s cabinet rubber stamped Lytham St Annes Civic Society’s £150,000 plans for the former Scruples site on Lytham Green in a meeting at St Annes Town Hall last night.

The scheme will see general landscaping to celebrate the history of Lytham Green, the RNLI, shipping and the town’s fishing industry.

A £415,000 sand and water play site by Park View 4U was turned down by members of the authority’s community focus scrutiny committee, who recommended the Civic Society’s project get the go ahead to the cabinet.

Council leader Coun David Eaves said he was “delighted” to propose the scheme be accepted before it was unanimously passed by his fellow cabinet members.

He added: “I look forward to the further discussions with the Civic Society and their proposals with that site.”

A £70,000 scheme to provide new shop frontages and street lighting on the lower part of Woodlands Road, in Ansdell, was also approved.

Coun Richard Redcliffe, who represents Ansdell ward, has welcomed the proposal.

He said: “The first phase that was passed covered most of Woodlands Road but didn’t cover the lower part.

“Once you improve one section you can see where the improvements need to be made elsewhere so it would be completely logical to do this.”

The funding for the project has come via a Section 106 agreement, which sees developers provide money to improve infrastructure for the communities in which they build.

In this case, the agreement was reached over a new development at Heyhouses Lane, St Annes, which will see 162 homes built by Morris Homes and Hollinwood Homes.
