Accidents and fights involving broken glass can be extremely dangerous and costly to the NHS.

So partnership members, including the police, Fylde Council and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are helping landlords to reduce the risks.

Coun Cheryl Little, cabinet member for Social Wellbeing, said: “We’ve all heard of people using glass as a weapon although it’s pretty rare.

Landlords in the local Pubwatch scheme asked for these plastic glasses so that people can party peacefully and without injury: that has to be a good thing.”

The £2,000 being spent by CSP partners will buy 2,500 pint glasses and 2,500 half-pint glasses.
