Residents can comment on the plan, which outlines where nearly 9,000 new homes will be built across the borough by 2031, until Friday, November 3.

Wyre’s Labour group has described the plan as a ‘severe blow to the north Fylde’ and described it as having ‘gaping holes’, but Blackpool North and Cleveleys’ Conservative MP Paul Maynard welcomed it, saying: “There is little doubt of the need for additional homes in the right areas across the borough with the benefits they may bring.”

After the consultation has ended, the council will submit its plan to the government for examination.

A planning inspector will pick out the key issues before holding a public meeting. If approved, the plan would then be adopted.

Chief executive, Garry Payne, said: “The public now have the opportunity to comment on the legal compliance, duty to cooperate and the soundness of the plan.

“It is really important that residents comment on these factors, as these are what the inspector will take into consideration.”
