A major housing decision is set to be referred to national planners following the end of a public inquiry.

Blackpool Council is trying to buy land and buildings between Tyldesley Road, Rigby Road and Blundell Street as part of a compulsory purchase order (CPO) to enable the authority to demolish them as part of the £50m Foxhall Village scheme.

The inquiry, chaired by planning inspector Clive Sproule, began on January 13 at Blackpool Town Hall.

It concluded on Friday, with the inspector expected to go away and make a recommendation to the National Planning Unit, part of Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles’ office.

Three objections were received in response to the CPO of which one has since been withdrawn.

Hollinwood Homes began work in February on the scheme to build more than 400 houses on the 19-acre site.
