The boss of a body piercing studio has denied breaching health and safety rules at his premises.

James Woods, 47, of Park Road, Blackpool, manages The Blackpool Body Piercing Clinic on Springfield Road, and is accused of running a dirty studio without electricity, having unsterilised equipment and not correctly disposing of waste, including needles.

He pleaded not guilty to eight health and safety offences and four offences of breaching Local Government Act regulations between August last year and February this year.

Victoria Cartmell, prosecuting for Blackpool Council at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, said the case was suitable to be heard at a magistrates court, but Woods asked for a trial at crown court.

He was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on July 17 by District Judge David Purcell.
