Celebrated TV historian Professor Michael Wood brought ancient history to life during a visit to Blackpool.

Students at Blackpool Sixth Form enjoyed a speech from the historian about the campaigns and lasting
legacy of Alexander the Great.

Pete Wright, classical civilisation teacher at Blackpool Sixth, said:“It was so amazing to hear our students after the talk and this week talking about Michael’s visit – I think it has really inspired them and given a further boost to their enthusiasm for the classical world.”

Professor Wood, who has presented numerous history documentaries including ‘Great Railway Journeys’, ‘In Search of the Trojan War’, and ‘In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great’, taught students about the Macedonian leader’s epic 13-year military campaign in the late fourth century BC.

Student Sam Hart said, “I really enjoyed hearing about the two sides of Alexander’s personality and how Michael viewed this.

“The talk has really reinforced my learning and fired my enthusiasm regarding the debate about Alexander’s greatness or megalomania!”
