Thousands raised in name of brave Ollie

A fundraising ball organised by the friends and family of a seriously ill boy raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Sport mad Ollie Alderson played for the Under 10’s at Thornton Cleveleys Football Club and was a member of his local golf course at Poulton before he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in November 2015.

The 11-year-old went through nearly a year of intensive treatment to, much of it at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, with a mechanical heart keeping him alive.

He was finally given a life-saving transplant last summer.

And in keeping with that sprit the Ollie’s Venture Ball was held in his honour in December and it has now been revealed the event raised £18,000.

Football coaches, Mark Riley and Ben Dawson organised the event at The Village Hotel in Blackpool to raise money for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund and The Sick Children’s Trust.

Ollie’s dad Jason is amazed by the amout raised.

He said: “The community completely backed Ollie and the amount of support he received made the event completely amazing!

“It’s fantastic to have raised so much money for two great charities who supported my family in our time of need.”

Wheels are already in motion to organise next year’s fundraiser, planned for December 2.
