Thornton mum writes a book about her depression

A mother-of-two who suffered post natal depression has published a book documenting her struggle

Nicole Addis, 36, of Thornton has two daughters, ten-year-old Sofia and Amie, 8.

She says depression began following the birth of her first child but it was after having her second that she was diagnosed.

The welfare assistant and teaching assistant at Anchorsholme Academy was given antidepressants and had therapy sessions.

She still takes anti depressants today and says while there can be a stigma surrounding that it gives her the chance to get through the day and be the best mum to her children.

She says: “One day after posting my feelings on Facebook my husband, Chris, 38, a self employed window cleaner said I should write a book.

“I started off with a blog and then during lock down I decided to adapt it in to a book.

Nicole wrote Ramblings In My Head- a book telling the story of her journey through depression and it is on sale on Amazon.

She says: “I have lived in Blackpool for the majority of my life and am now raising both my children here.

She says: “After having post natal depression I decided to share my story in a blog which during lockdown I adapted into a book which has recently been published on Amazon.

“I am trying to spread to word to more people.

“To let people know it’s OK to not be OK, it’s OK to talk about mental illness and well being. Let’s break the stigma.

“This is my real, honest and raw account of living with depression.

“All the ups, the downs and the just plain not good enough.

“The places and people where I found support and the ones that sent me down the wrong path.

“This is my journey towards overcoming the obstacles of life and hoping I make it to the end.”

“I feel good about the book and I am very glad I did it. I now have plans for two more.

“The feedback has been very positive and I am hoping it may provide inspiration to others who may be feeling the same way.
