The Thatched House Golf Society, founded in 2000 at the Thatched House in Poulton, has raised funds for local charities for the last three years with annual golf trips abroad.

But after the coronavirus scuppered its travel plans, the society decided to hold a charity golf day at Poulton Golf Club on Saturday July 25, for Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children's Hospice in Bispham.

Sean said: "Poulton Golf Club let us have the course for free, and we staggered the tee times for teams to keep everyone safely distanced.

"Other pubs around Poulton donated furniture to us so we could stick to social distancing rules, and there were sanitisers at each hole.

"Trinity and Brian House are such worthy causes. My father-in-law spent time in Trinity and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am today.

"It was compulsory to wear fancy dress, and we had loads of fun. It was a fantastic day."

"The Golf Society has supported us in the past, but they really pulled out all the stops this year.

"For the event to raise over £16,000 was way beyond our expectations and we are absolutely delighted with this amount.

"This comes at a really difficult time as we have seen most of the hospice’s mass participation events cancelled for spring and summer.

"Thank you to everyone that took part, you have all made such a difference to your local hospice."
