The Steamer pub and restaurant in Fleetwood all set for big reopening tomorrow

Restaurants, pubs, cafes and hotels are getting ready for reopening tomorrow, after months of lockdown, but the businesses have no idea what to expect from the public.

Like other businesses across the UK, those in Fleetwood and the rest of the Fylde coast are looking forward to get back to normal, although things will be different, post lockdown.

Will customers be keen to finally get back to their favourite eateries and watering holes, or will many still be worried about Covid-19?

At The Steamer pub on Queens Terrace, entertainer Syd Little and wife Sheree run not just a pub but the Little Restaurant and are ready with all the Government-led guidelines.

Sheree said: “We have no idea what it will be like but we’re just going to take it as it comes - it could be mad but it could be a no-show.

“We have everything ready - we have our perspex screens right across the bar, hand sanitisers all over the place and a one way system in and out.

“There will be table service only, with nobody queuing up at the bar.

“We will also be taking contact details of customers for track and trace because those are the guidelines we have to follow.”

Sheree added: “We also live on the premises so it has been very sad seeing the place empty - pubs are like theatres, they should be full of people enjoying themselves.”

Other pubs set to open on Saturday include The Royal Oak (Dead ‘Uns), on Lord Street, where Linda Hardy is ready with her preparations.

She is relishing the return of pubs opening and says it does people good to get out.

Businesses across town are supporting each other and calling for residents to get out and back local shops and amenities, while adhering to all the safety guidelines as things slowly normalise.
