In a bid to bring a special Christmas to children who may have missed a visit to Santa's Grotto this year, the Bispham community has pulled together to organise its very own Santa parade this Wednesday (December 23).

A Facebook group formed by members of the community has amassed over 1,000 followers, all gearing up to welcome Santa and his sleigh to the village.

Harry the Christmas Lorry, a bespoke Christmas truck built by Doug Smith from Hambleton, will cruise through Bispham bringing festive joy to families.

Blackpool DJ Jason Fubar will provide the soundtrack, by playing a special set on the back of a truck following Father Christmas.

And Santa can't be without his elves, who will be collecting donations in buckets for Low Moor Road hospices Trinity Hospice and Brian House.

Karen Frost, of Holmfield Road in Bispham, is an operations manager for catering at Lancashire County Council and helped to organise the event.

Karen will don her elf outfit for the good cause, and hopes to raise enough money to support the hospices after fundraising events were cancelled during the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: "We've already raised over £500 through our Just Giving page, and we're hoping to collect donations on the night too, elves will be walking round with buckets.

"We wanted to raise money for Trinity and Brian House because it's a cause local to Bispham, but also because everyone will know someone who has needed their services before.

"They help so many people. This year has been really difficult for them, and for local children who have had a terrible year.

"I've seen at work first hand how hard-hit families have been because of the pandemic.

"We just want to put a smile on children's faces, they might not have been able to see Santa this year."
