Ready, set, race... for pink power!

They're under starter's orders for a display of female solidarity tomorrow night in Blackpool.

The Promenade will once again become a sea of pink as thousands of women from across the Fylde coast take part in the annual Race For Life event.

Many have personal reasons for walking, running, or jogging either the 5k or 10k course, to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

And many of the colleagues, sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts and friends will don pink or fancy dress to add a touch of humour to the often-emotional proceedings. Last year, more than 2,400 women took part in Blackpool’s Race For Life and raised a massive £115,000. Organisers are hoping to do even better this time.

Laura Taylor, Cancer Research UK’s North West event manager, said: “I’m so pleased with how much the ladies raised in 2015. A heartfelt thank you from Cancer Research UK to all who took part and supported last year and those doing it this year.”

And for anyone who wasn’t able to take part in tomorrow night’s event, there will be another chance to join in the Race For Life atmosphere and raise money for the charity.

The town has been chosen to host Race for Life Pretty Muddy for the first time, at Lawson’s Showground, near Stanley Park, on Saturday, September 17.

Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with added mud.

Laura Taylor added “The event is taking place in the town for the first time and we’re calling on local ladies to muck in to make it a huge success.”
