Joanne Wilson Ballet and Dance School, based at Furness Drive on Poulton industrial estate, will continue to teach all ages online from her home.

Owner and ex-Royal Ballet dancer Joanne Wilson, 37, will offer the online classes for free during the lockdown period, to keep children and adults alike active, occupied and in some cases, disciplined enough to take their professional exams when the current situation allows.

Joanne said: "We closed a few days before the lockdown was imposed because I didn't want to take any risks with the children I teach, we have about 80 students at the school at the moment.

"I thought these online classes would not only keep me occupied, but keep the kids occupied too. I wanted to make sure everyone stays active and remembers the techniques they've been taught at the school, but I'm also offering the classes to anyone who would like to join in.

"I'm not charging for them because it's more important to me that my students are staying active and healthy, and they're able to speak to and see their friends as well while they dance."

Classes will run Monday-Thursday every week, and include baby ballet, ballet, fitness and exercise classes, cheerleading, commercial and modern, and masterclasses based around production skills.

As a result of the coronavirus, Miss Wilson had to postpone her hen-party and wedding until later in the year.

She continued: "I was a bit down about that, but as soon as I get on camera and help everyone with their dancing, I feel so much better. It's really brought some positivity to the situation for me.

"Anyone is welcome to join, in fact it's been really nice to see our students' parents getting involved. Lots of mums have been doing the fitness classes and ballet with their children."
