'Plan extra time for journeys': Blackpool road is shut after sewer collapses
A collapsed sewer has led to the closure of a road in central Blackpool.
The council said Reads Avenue will be shut between Central Drive and Coronation Street until this Friday.
"Please plan extra time for your journey," it told motorists.
A spokesman for the water company United Utilities said: “A potential issue was reported to us in July and on investigation we found a defect on a section of sewer.
“This was not causing any service issues and allowed us time to liaise with Blackpool Council highways team to agree a date for the required temporary road closure, which would have the least amount of disruption on the local community.
“We notified local residents before we put the subsequent road closure in place and we aim to have the repair work completed and the road reopened by the end of this week.
“We would like to thank the community for bearing with us.”
