It is being led by 15 health and social care charities that have come together with National Lottery funding and support from Sport England to encourage people living with long term health conditions to find a way to be active that suits them.

The main target audience for the campaign will be those who are referred onto the reablement programme delivered by the council’s Adult Social Care service. A 6-week programme involving the Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) and community sessions will be provided.

Coun Maria Kirkland, inset, the council’s cabinet member responsible for leisure, said: “It is fantastic to see Active Blackpool presented with the opportunity to pilot this work with Adult Social Care.

“It is important that we get people with long-term health conditions active in a way that works for them, despite the ups and downs and unpredictability of their condition – I hope the campaign will become a success and be rolled out fully.”
