St Johns ward Coun Michael Sayward, 30, and his mum Claire own Millie and Mini on Clifton Street, Lytham.

Michael's aunt Sally Forsyth, a neonatal nurse at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, originally knitted nurses as gifts for her colleagues, but after further requests decided to make them for sale at Millie and Mini to donate the proceeds to the hospital.

Michael said: "We've been doing this for around three weeks now and have sold 45 nurses so far, raising over £400 for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.

"At Halloween last year we sold knitted pumpkins for the NHS as well. We've always supported them."

As an asthma sufferer, Coun Sayward struggled to find candles which were non-irritating with scents he liked, so he teamed up with mum Claire to create soy candles suitable for asthmatics.

He continued: "Business is okay for us, it's more difficult without passing trade but we are managing to get through the pandemic with online sales.

"Selling the knitted nurses through our shop means we can show our appreciation for the NHS workers and give back to them in donations. All key workers are doing an amazing job at the moment."
