Following the Lottery Community grant of £9,956 last year, the House has been transformed into a dementia friendly haven where people living with dementia and their carers or friends can enjoy an afternoon to remember.

The project will be hosted by the team each Thursday afternoon from 1–3pm, when visitors will be invited to participate in various activities involving music, games and memorabilia experiences before finishing the afternoon with refreshments.

Various health professionals and care home managers were invited to see how the house has been transformed and say what they thought about the experiences that will be provided for the carers/friends and the people they look after.

The funding has allowed the Trustees and the House Manager; Pete Mercer to arrange for the House to be completely and appropriately redecorated in dementia friendly colours.

New furniture has also been bought in associated colours, providing a fresh feel to the cosy atmosphere that the house already provides for the other sessions that the House hosts.

The emphasis is about opening up the House to people living in the local community with dementia and encouraging their carers/friends to book in for each Thursdays Afternoon to Remember sessions, a community project that all the health professionals attending last week said was desperately needed.
