A garage at the back of Onslow Road, Layton, was destroyed in a suspected arson attack this afternoon.

Firefighters from Blackpool spent around 90 minutes tackling flames at the property, which backs on to Lyncroft Crescent, after being called out at around 3.20pm.

Nobody was hurt, green watch crew manager Glenn Thwaites said.

"It was quite a serious fire and it was about to spread to the house, but we stopped it in time," he said.

He said the garage contained furniture and mattresses.

Police are now hunting the culprits.
