Excitement building as charities and other good causes wait to see who will share in £25,000 giveaway

Time has run out for charities and individuals to grab a share of £25,000 but excitement is building ahead of the big announcement.

The Gazette has once again teamed up with Swallowdale Children’s Trust for the giveaway and we have been

inundated with applications from a wide range of worthy causes.

The campaign pledged to give away grants totalling £25,000 to help young people across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.

The grants are available for deserving groups and individuals under 25 years of age who are in need of a helping hand.

The committee of the Swallowdale Children’s Trust now have the difficult task of studying all the applications in detail, and deciding how the cash will be splashed.

A wide range of people benefitted from last year’s cash pot of £10,000.

Marton’s Friday Night Club youth project was given £500 to pay for new equipment.

FY Rangers were given £500 to help pay for a trip to Copenhagen and Blackpool-based Bugs 2 Butterflies was handed £1,000 to support its work with young people in some of the town’s most deprived areas.

Individuals also benefited from the 2016 appeal.

Budding gymnast Rachel Leaper from Freckleton was given £300 to attend training camps while Adam Welch from Kirkham was granted £200 to attend the European scout jamboree in Poland.

Visually impaired Christopher Hubbersty from Blackpool got £100 to pay for a large phone while Grace Callon Jackson, also from Blackpool, was handed £500 for a charity trip to Nepal.

Julie Bascombe of Bugs 2 Butterflies said: “This has made a fantastic difference to the children.

“We were able to give them experiences they otherwise would not have had.”

This year’s big winners will be named at a presentation evening at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool Promenade on Wednesday June 14.

Shortlisted applicants, from the dozens of schools, scout groups, sports clubs, youth groups, dance troupes and individuals who have applied will be notified towards the end of this month.
