Asian elephants Noorjahan and baby Esha were welcomed to Project Elephant today following a 139 mile journey from Twycross Zoo.

They are now being introduced to fellow elephants, long-term Blackpool resident Kate and newcomers Minbu and Tara, who used to live with the mother-daughter pair in Twycross.

A Blackpool Zoo spokesman said: "Getting an elephant from A to B is no easy tusk, particularly when the journey involves the M6 and M55.

"The Clever one (Noorjahan) and Playful one (Esha) arrived safely and in fine fettle. Esha was barely out of the transportation container before Tara in Base Camp was calling to her bestie!

"Thanks a ton (and few more) to all involved! The long day and mammoth efforts were worth it!"
