Luckily, mud technicians from Fleetwood and Knott End Coastguards were at hand to carry out a rescue operation in Stanah this morning.

Rescue officers wearing dry suits and ‘mudders’ walking shoes waded out to the dog and reunited her with her owner.

A Fleetwood Coastguard spokesman said: "Today the team rescued a 14-year-old collie who had fallen down the embankment behind Vitrex on the river Wyre. She was OK but stuck in the mud, so ourselves and Knott End Coastguard deployed mud techs to go and get her. Thankfully she wasn't too scared, so was thankful for our help."
