Bra-vo for uplifting campaign

The ladies at the Lingerie Lounge, in Queen Street, Blackpool, have been spreading that message to Fylde coast women, as they are collecting unwanted undies for a good cause – and they have now gathered more than 440 discarded bras.

The bras will be donated to the Against Breast Cancer recycling campaign.

The charity takes unwanted or unloved bras, through its network of bra banks and uses them to raise vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research.

The same bras also help support small businesses in Africa. They are given a new lease in life in developing countries, such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras are too expensive to produce locally. Any bras genuinely beyond redemption are dismantled and disposed of.

The Lingerie Lounge set up a bra bank and has already filled four bins.

Chrissy Thomas Griffin, who owns the Lingerie Lounge, said: “We never thought the bra bank would be so popular. We have had so many generous donations.

“We have filled four bins already.

“My friend’s brother died from cancer a few years ago and so I am keep to support research and do our bit in any way we can.”

It is an exciting time for the shop, which Chrissy took over in 2014 and prides itself on making sure women are wearing correctly-fitting underwear.

The Lingerie Lounge has been shortlisted under the best newcomer category in the Stars Underlines Best Shop Awards.

The awards also feature names like Selfridges and House of Fraser and are considered the “Oscars of the lingerie world.”

The team from the Lingerie Lounge is travelling down to London for the glittering ceremony on Thursday, at Shakespeare’s Globe.
