Bottles just left by litter louts on Fleetwood seafront

Thoughtless litter louts have struck again at Fleetwood's much-admired lower prom.

The stepped seafront, at the top of Chatsworth Avenue, was completed two years ago as part of the £62.3m Rossall Coastal Protection Scheme to protect homes.

But this morning the steps were littered with bottles left there without any attempt to dispose of them.

The photo was taken by Phil Thompson, a Cleveleys resident who often likes to take in the scenic view along the seafront and who is frustrated that it is being ruined by selfish litter louts.

And he says it is even less forgivable at the time of viral pandemic.

He said: "The empty bottles were just dumped on the lower promenade at the top of Chatsworth Avenue.

"Ten days ago it was exactly the same but this time it was broken bottle and glass.

"Two employees of Wyre Borough Council had to sweep the broken glass off every step over a thirty metre area.

"Who are these mindless vandals, and why do they think it's ok for other people to pick up their contaminated waste after them?

"On Wednesday morning there where bottles and cans on the steps leading on to the promenade at the top of Victoria Road, Cleveleys.

"I was under the impression that drinking alcohol on the streets was illegal, if so where are the police?"

"Groups of up to twenty teenagers are regularly congregating on Cleveleys promenade most evenings and the rubbish they leave behind is appalling.

"The steps leading down to the beach are littered with bottles, cans and nitrous oxide cylinders. I feel sorry for the cleansing team from Wyre Borough because they are fighting a losing battle.

"As a local resident I think it is about time that this matter was addressed by the authorities."
