Even though there is no Fleetwood in Bloom entry this year, due to the pandemic, a pocket of willing ladies have transformed one of the rowing boats which have served as huge planters in recent years.

Before lockdown, the ladies from SASS, an online community magazine which continues to thrive in Fleetwood, were invited to take part in the floral event and they asked if they could take charge of the little boat, which is located next to the log cabin near to Fleetwood Sea Cadet base.

SASS member Amanda Worthington, who has helped with the project, said: “I thought it would be nice to pay a little bit back to SASS and also Fleetwood at the same time so offered to help.”

The council had provided some bedding plants and the boat needed weeding, so the team swung into action.

“It soon looked fresher and had a few flowering plants in,” said Amanda.

“I had also found a lamp which was red and placed it in the boat as thought it fit well, had a few butterflies, ladybugs and bees so dotted them about hoping it would get the children looking for more.

“While there I met a local retired business man who had been watering the plants on the boat for years, so I knew the watering was in good hands.

People passing complimented on the boat and said they appreciated the fact that the boat was being done and loved it.”

Petra Bee, also a SASS member, added: “Everyone has been magnificent and come together to make our little boat a reality.”
