Blackpool RNLI volunteers pay tribute to former treasurer with 50 years of service

Blackpool lifeboat volunteers have been paying tribute to former volunteer Colin Fenton who has died aged 84.

Colin, who volunteered as the Blackpool RNLI station’s treasurer for more than 50 years, died on May 4, following a long battle with illness.

He served as volunteer treasurer at the station from 1966 to 2017 and the RNLI said Colin took his commitment to the RNLI 'very seriously' and dedicated 50 years of his life to the charity, managing donations with 'diligence and care'.

A spokesman for Blackpool RNLI said: "Colin routinely went above and beyond what was asked of him in his voluntary role at Blackpool RNLI, he carried out all of the routine duties of a lifeboat station Treasurer but over the years, he also sent hundreds of personal, handwritten thank you letters to people who made donations to the lifeboat station."

Volunteer lifeboat operations manager, Keith Horrocks MBE said: "Colin was a stalwart member of our lifeboat station family, he carried out his role with dedication and care, but he was also a loyal and kind friend to us all. We will miss him."

Volunteer chairman, Ian Butter added: "We would like to offer our very sincere condolences to Colin’s family at this sad time, he was an exemplary RNLI volunteer and we will remember him fondly."
