The indie band Alright were formed during lockdown last year and they put that time to good use by writing their own songs.

They have spent the past seven months writing and rehearsing before finally putting down the tracks at the Rock Hard recording studio in North Shore, Blackpool

The lads all come from South Shore in the resort and have an average age of 25.

Joe Darnell, 24, is the lead singer, with Matt Bunnage on rhythm guitar, Joe Platt the lead guitarist (and bass player on the single) and Josh Hagan on drums.

Joe, who works as a PE teacher in Manchester, says lead song Lover's Game is a vivacious anthem about a pair of young lovers, while Rat Race is a more melancholic song with thoughtful lyrics.

"The second lockdown came along but somehow the four of us were able to bounce tunes off each without even being in the same room, thanks to WhatsApp Messenger.

"Lockdown has been terrible for most people but in a strange way we may not have actually bothered to keep things going without it.

"We're obviously excited about the single coming out and we'll just see how things go from there.

Joe and Matt have written around 30 songs between them since August and hope to record a five-track EP later this year.

In the meantime, they have a live gig at Bootleg Social on Topping Street, Blackpool on Saturday July 24, when Fylde coast performance poet Nathan Parker
