Mum Carley Saunders said she hoped the idea would help Harvey, who will start Hodgson Academy in Poulton in September, learn more about the value of money.

The idea came about after Harvey had hoped to earn enough money to buy add-ons for his Playstation game during lockdown by doing housework for his mum.

But he was disappointed when she told him his hour of housework would not earn him the £17 he wanted for his game.

Realising he needed to learn more about the value of money before high school, Harvey set up his own car washing business, which has proven popular with locals.

Mum Carley, 31, said: "I explained to him that not many people are paid £17 for an hour of work, so he decided he would try to earn his own money.

"He thought about washing our neighbour's cars, but then I asked on Facebook if anyone would be interested and we were shocked at the amount of responses.

"So many people have offered to drive to our house so he can wash their car, and he's so excited to be earning his own money.

"When I was younger, we only went to places like McDonald's as a treat, and didn't really need money for anything. But I think kids don't appreciate as much as we did.

"It's been really nice to get so much support, and I hope it helps him learn that you have to work hard for the things you want."

Harvey is offering a full wash and rinse for £3.50, with vacuuming for an extra £3.
