After years of being frustrated by morning family favourites going soft too soon because their boxes wouldn’t stay closed, Becky was relieved to find a solution that worked on an online household hints site.

She mentioned it to a friend, who asked her to post a video tutorial, and was so impressed she suggested it be given a wider spotlight.

Within days, the 34-second video had topped three million views and attracted attention not just from cereal fans across the globe but from TV stations and other media as far afield as the USA and New Zealand.

“I really can’t believe it,” said Becky, 40, who lives close to Stanley Park with husband Dave and daughters Olivia, nine, and Isabel, three.

“It was accidental – I was browsing the internet for a solution, as we are going through more cereal while lockdown is on and all four of us have our own favourites.

“I found a folding technique which I thought I’d give a go the next morning with the numerous cereal boxes we have and couldn’t believe how simple it was.

“The folding literally takes seconds, looks really neat, and stops cereal going all soggy.

“I was so delighted, I posted a few words to friends on Facebook, a friend asked for a video tutorial, which Dave and I quickly did, added it to the post and the friend suggested we make public.”

Becky, who runs a celebrant service from home, covering weddings and other events, added: ““I never in a million years thought it would be viewed three million times. All the comments and feedback have been really kind.”

Becky said of her solution (pictured inset): “It’s only taken me 40 years but now I know the correct way; it takes seconds, no more dried up cereal and ugly torn boxes to greet me every morning” - and here it is step by step:

1 Take the two small flaps on either side of the box and fold them in;

2 Take the horizontal flap closest to you and tuck it in as well;

3 Fold the box into a V shape by pinching the two sides together;

4 Do the same on the other side;

5 Take the horizontal flap that remains and tuck it into the box.
