Newly-qualified teacher Ashleigh Bleasdale is hoping to wear the county crown with the additional reward of qualification to the Miss England competition.

Thornton-based Ashleigh, who works at St Michael’s in Kirkham, has embarked on a whirlwind tour to raise her profile for the area final which takes place this weekend in Preston.

Central to the activities was raising money for Variety Children’s Charity who raise funds for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Ashleigh said she would be proud to represent the county and has enjoyed supporting such a good cause.

“Taking part in Miss Lancashire is something I’ve wanted to do for some time. It would be such an honour to win the title and progress through the competition.

“Supporting the good work of Variety has been an added-bonus. I’m very grateful to Fleetwood rugby club who provided the venue and to Paul Roskell who is a school friend and a great singer.”

Earlier this year, the current Miss Lancashire, Preston student Mary-Kate McKay, called on other Red Rose girls to follow in her footsteps down the Miss Lancashire Catwalk.

Mary said: “You come away with skills such as fundraising, interview skills and being pro-active. Not only that, but you gain new friends and contacts, a huge confidence boost, and a new energy which motivates you to be the best version of you.”

Co-organiser Mary Ainsworth added: “The confidence that taking part gave me opened up so many new doors and gave me incredible opportunities that I may not have had otherwise.”
