A committee of local Fleetwood Town supporters, some of whom are former players themselves, have banded together to set up the match.

It will be played to raise money for Fleetwood RNLI, Fleetwood Coastguard and the Lee Rigby Foundation.

Dan Ferguson with help from George Ellarby, who played for Fleetwood Town in the 70’s and 80’s, is spearheading the charity match between Fleetwood Town Legends and an All Stars Select squad for the summer. The committee was formed last year to look at organising the event and just before Christmas they raised £2,000 through an online raffle for people in Fleetwood in need of a helping hand.

Dan said: “This has all been done by a group of folk who six months ago never knew each other and I think it’s truly amazing what this team have done for folk in the Fleetwood area. Due to the success of this I’ve been approached by ex professional footballers and celebrities to take part and to also to set up charity football matches around the country.”

The FC All Stars Charity Squad will be managed by ex premiership defender Shaun Teale, with Michael Cullen as president, double gold Olympic and world champion Jade Jones as ambassador. Former Grange Hill and Brookside actor George Wilson is also on board.

“We have some great names joining in helping this new venture,” said Dan.

The match is planned for the spring when restrictions allow at Highbury Stadium.
