The Lake’s new adventure play area, complementing the wider Fairhaven National Lottery Heritage Fund Redevelopment project, has been match funded with £30,000 from a successful Lancashire Environmental Fund application submitted by the Friends of Fairhaven Lake.

Its completion, which adds to the Pirates Cove play area for younger children, opened in 2016, is to be followed later this summer by the introduction of an 18-hole adventure golf course at the Lake.

Welcoming the adventure playground’s completion, Coun Cheryl Little, chairman of Fylde Council’s tourism and leisure committee, said “It’s in fantastic surroundings and is a great addition to the Lake for residents and visitors”

Alan Pedder, chairman of the Friends of Fairhaven Lake, added: “We are delighted to have worked in partnership and considerably contributed to the development of this exciting new facility for children and families to enjoy at our lovely lake.”

The new play area consists of 42 activities and the contract for the work, which began in February, was awarded to Playdale, which also constructed Pirates’ Cove, after the evaluation panel agreed they demonstrated quality design, value for money and an ability to complement the existing park environment.

Contractor for the 18-hole adventure golf course is Greenspan and it is designed to celebrate Fylde’s heritage, taking in iconic buildings such as the Windmill, Lytham Hall and Singleton Fire station.

The Lake, which dates back to 1892 and was redesigned in 1925, was awarded a National Lottery grant of almost £1.5m in 2018 and is funding a project which along with the conservation and restoration of buildings and landscape, is seeing the Lake’s infrastructure and water quality improved, new information boards installed and community activity encouraged.
