Pensioner on £200k drugs charges

Retired gas fitter Roger Bishop, of Chester Avenue, Poulton, was remanded in custody by District Judge Rod Ross sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged father- of-one Bishop had his Land Rover Discovery stopped by police on the M55 motorway earlier this week. The prosecution claims heroin and other drugs used to “cut” heroin into larger quantities of drugs to a street value of £200,000 was found in the vehicle.

Bishop is further charged with being involved in the illegal supply of cocaine.

The judge ruled the 66- year-old’s case must be heard at Preston Crown Court.

Bishop will appear at the higher court on September 17.
