A pensioner has been banned from driving for two years by a court after he was caught over the alcohol limit.

John Gregson, 71, of Knowsley Crescent, Weeton, was found to be three times over the legal limit after his car crashed into bushes as he drove home from a carol concert, magistrates were told.

He had swerved to avoid another vehicle being driven by an off duty police officer.

Gregson admitted the offence and Blackpool magistrates also fined him £200 and ordered him to pay £105 in costs and victims’ surcharge.

Alan Godwin ,defending said: “My client lives in the middle of nowhere and the bus service is about to be reduced even further.

“He has now got himself a pedal cycle.”
