A Peak-e performance?

Lytham Festival organisers have fired a message into space inviting UK astronaut Major Tim Peake to come and see Noel Gallagher perform his intergalactic classic.

Major Peake is due to arrive home to earth today after an historic six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

While in space Major Peake has been kept entertained by his own 117-song Spotify playlist which he put together before blast off. It includes the Noel Gallagher and Oasis acoustic classic D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be headlining Lancashire’s Lytham Festival on Thursday August 4 and organisers have tweeted Major Peake while still in space inviting him to the gig as their guest of honour.

Lytham Festival Director Daniel Cuffe said: “Major Tim Peake is a national hero and a man who has boldly gone where no English man has gone before.

“He took a playlist of his favourite tunes with him into space including D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman. As the song is part of Noel’s current set we would love to welcome Major Peake to Lytham Festival and see Noel sing it in person.

“Not only this, and in-keeping with the space theme, the night before Noel’s appearance we have the largest ever seaside screening of Star Wars.

“We cannot think of a more fitting person to be here on the night as our guest of honour than Major Tim Peake and we all wish him a safe journey home today.”

During his stay in space, Major Peake made the first spacewalk by a UK astronaut, remotely steered a robot on Earth and ran the equivalent of the London Marathon.

A Soyuz capsule carrying Major Peake and two other crew members is due to land in Kazakhstan at 10.15am today.

Speaking in his last live link-up from space, Major Peake said: “It’s been a fantastic six months up here – really remarkable, incredible experience.
