Passes galore for LSA students

Both are going on to study at the new Lytham Sixth Form and have their sights set on careers on science and forensics respectively.

Jemima Bolton from St Annes was given the ideal boost in her aim of a career in law as she earned eight A*s and two As, while James Houston, yet to decide between medicine or law as his career objective, was delighted with a similar haul.

“I was hoping for three or four As and was honestly prepared for the worst but I am delighted with these results,” he said.

Danica Taylor, with six A*s, two As and a B among her 13 passes, is aiming for a career in art therapy, while Louise Hartley saw her hopes of a career in dentistry boosted with a 13-pass haul.

Also among the students with 13 passes was Lucinda Heavyside, who was chief attendant to St Annes Carnival Queen Charlotte Griffiths up to last month.

Headmaster Philip Wood said: “I would like to congratulate all those hard working students who achieved excellent results this morning.

“As exams get harder it was wonderful to see so many students getting the results that will allow them to move on to the next stage in their learning.

“Their hard work, the support of their parents and the dedication of their teachers have all contributed to many students achieving outstanding results.

“Overall, 75 per cent of all our examination entries were passed at grades A* to C, well above the national average of 69 per cent.

“Attainment in both English and Mathematics was also above national averages.

“The general secretary of ASCL, the professional association for headteachers, warned about uncertainty about the reliability of exam grades this year and this is something we have seen at this school.

“Particularly affected is the progress measure used by Government in performance tables which has been made unreliable due to the teacher boycott of Key Stage 2 SAT tests for this cohort.”
