Parks across borough to ban smoking

Smokefree signs are to be installed in the children’s play areas of parks as part of a scheme, being run jointly by Lancashire County Council with Wyre Council and Fylde Council, to encourage people not to smoke around children.

The authorities are encouraging people to sign up to the voluntary Smokefree Play Code to not light up in playgrounds.

According to officials, the scheme is a voluntary code, it is not a ban on smoking in playgrounds, but a move to make people consider the impact their actions can have.

Parks staff will also be trained and given resources to inform people about the code as well as stop smoking services.

Playgrounds in Blackpool are already covered by a similar scheme, run by Blackpool Council.
