Blackpool RNLI was called at 10.30pm yesterday to reports of potential emergencies at both North and South Pier on Blackpool Promenade.

Both incidents were then called off by the coastguard - but a pair of waders was then found near the South pier.

One D class lifeboat and one Atlantic 85 lifeboat from Blackpool RNLI were launched and volunteers searched the area along with the coastguard teams from Fleetwood and Lytham, however nobody was found.

A Fleetwood coastguard spokesman said: "Ourselves and HM Coastguard Lytham searched the area extensively along with RNLI Blackpool with nobody in distress to be found. After discussions with police we stood down and returned to station.

"If you see anybody in distress on our coastline call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
