Owners urged to chip their dog

The Dog's Trust has reminded dog owners that they must now have their pets microchipped by law.

The charity will microship dogs for free at the Solaris Centre on Blackpool Promenade from 10.30am until noon on Thursday.

All dogs must be accompanied by an owner aged 18 or over.

Microchipping will not be carried out on hunting dogs or litters of puppies. Puppies under six months of age must be fully vaccinated, and proof of vaccination must be provided.

All pet dogs must be microchipped with their owners contact details as of April last year.

Dog health experts will also be on hand to carry out basic health checks on dogs’ ears, teeth and coat, provide free nail-clipping, and give out out free pet care advice.
